Antigua Guatemala fue elegida en Londres como la mejor ciudad turística de 2009

瓜地馬拉自由新聞報(Prensa Libre)於11日(星期三)刊載一則有關英國Wanderlust旅遊雜誌針對其讀者所做之調查統計結果，安地瓜市獲選為2009年最好的城市。

La revista inglesa Wanderlust designó a Antigua Guatemala como ‘la mejor ciudad de 2009’, al finalizar la “Destinations Travel Show”, feria de turismo de Londres.

La ciudad colonial fue elogiada en el primer lugar por encima de Kyoto, en Japón, Boston, Estados Unidos, y otros 600 destinos del mundo.

La feria se celebró del 5 al 8 de febrero último en la capital inglesa, donde Wanderlust anunció a sus ganadores.

La publicación especializada en turismo también premia al mejor país, agencia de turismo, libro de viajes y línea aérea, determinados por la elección de los lectores de dicha revista en donde manifiestan su grado de satisfacción con el destino turístico seleccionado.

Antigua Guatemala fue vista como la ciudad colonial más bella del mundo, en la que destacan sus innumerables templos y edificios de la época de gran valor histórico y arquitectónico, junto a su ambiente bohemio.

Sandra Monterroso, directora de mercadeo del Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo, comentó que la elección de Antigua como mejor ciudad en 2009 es motivo de orgullo y es algo que hay que aprovechar por el prestigio de la revista inglesa, a la vez que compromete a todo sector a preservar el patrimonio, cultural, natural e intangible en la ciudad.

“Esto demuestra que Guatemala, teniendo una geografía pequeña, tiene una gran riqueza interna en oferta de turismo que nos hace competitivos a nivel internacional”, consideró.

Maruja Acevedo, directora de la Cámara de Turismo, comentó que es positivo para el país este tipo de reconocimientos ante una situación económica difícil y que permite que Guatemala tenga más exposición a nivel internacional.


Wanderlust Travel Awards announced
New country tops readers’ travel list

The winners of the annual Wanderlust Travel Awards, as voted by the readers of the magazine, were announced today at Destinations travel show in London.

There were some big surprises in this year’s results. Japan scooped the prestigious Top Country award, after years of New Zealand and Namibia jostling for the prestigious title.

Antigua in Guatemala grabbed the Top City accolade, beating Luang Prabang in Laos, winner for the previous two years.

Bruce Parry once again nabbed the Top TV Programme prize with his latest show Amazon, leaving Ewan and Charley a long way behind in second place.

Elsewhere, Singapore Airlines retained the Top Worldwide Airline crown, ahead of Etihad and Air New Zealand. Air Berlin held onto the Top Low-Cost Airline award, beating off competition from Air Asia and Virgin Blue.

Singapore’s Changi Airport scooped the Top Worldwide Airport prize (again) while London City retained its Top UK Airport crown.

New this year was the Top Rail Journey category, won by Scotland’s West Highland Line, ahead of the iconic Trans-Siberian and the Cuzco to Machu Picchu line in Peru.
